10 Things to entertain the crew on board 2020
Merchant navy is a difficult task. Leaving a family is not an easy task. Mariners spend most of their lives on ships and stay away from their loved ones. Maritime authorities continue to work to make their lives easier. Mariners found pleasure in the little things on the ship to stay strong, miles away from home.
Here are few things to entertain the crew on board:
1. Internet
The Internet has
become a necessity along with food and drinking water! Life without internet is
unfavorable for some people, right? It is a luxury on board! It is something
that makes everyone happy. Seeing or hearing of your loved ones after a busy
day from work via social platforms while in the middle of the ocean, providing
unique comfort.
2. Satellite Phone
If you recognize
the INMARSAT
satellite phone code on your mobile phone, discard everything you
do and make a call! This is not a device we used to make routine calls, a safe
call only when mariner is truly happy about something or needs the support of a
loved one. Either way, it’s one of the largest stores for sailors outside the
company of his ship’s friends. The call is expensive and should not be
considered a simple chat ping.
3. The Recreational Room
It is the “common room” where the sailors meet for various debates, films etc. Working hours are the usual hours for tea breaks or sitting together after meals, a well-designed smoking/recreation room brings sailors together every day.
Usually, there are two recreational rooms for officers and crew members. According to the Maritime Labour Convention, there is no difference between the two. The facilities provided for both are the same. It makes everyone happy on ship.
4. The Party
A party everywhere
is what every sailor likes. Whether it's Christmas, New Year's Eve, someone's
birthday or maybe a good day, a good party on the ship makes everyone happy.
Either the meat that is cooked to perfection in the countryside. A party is a
time when mutual friendship and love reach a new peak. Apart from the officer,
it is certain that almost everyone leaves their hair down within a few hours
and don't judge us. It is not your average party at night on the beach, dressed
abruptly and gelatin at the ends, smelling colognes everywhere. No, that's
another class. One of the most common outlets and debauchery.
5. To Sleep
No
sailor can ever deny that the most precious asset of the arsenal is a long and
healthy sleep! Overworked most of the time and in need of rest, a sailor waits
impatiently for the moment when he can return to his cabin after a hard
day/night at work to rest and recover. Those who work on board know most of the
time, going to the cabin inadvertently means falling asleep (unless there are
more urgent questions at hand). Frankly, there is hardly any energy left and/or
desire to edit a film or read a book after hours. Most of the time, a trip to
the smoke house after working the watch/bridge is only a precursor for
gradually falling asleep in a few hours of happiness.
6. Appreciation
In an increasingly
professional work environment where human relationships sit in the background,
a few words of appreciation can be a huge motivator for an individual. It is
not necessary that these be good words of praise; however, a simple thank you
or a good job will help the sailors feel that their work is very important to
others, which automatically increases the willingness to work and efficiency.
7. Allowances
We as humans,
seafarers or not, are tuned in to accept the reward in the right spirit.
Necessarily non-monetary at all times, any form of reward increases production
and is almost always taken in a good mood. A little extra in the end-of-month
assignment, or something on the charterers' side makes seafarers feel always
involved in the company's processes. Logically enough, appreciation combined
with benefits definitely increases an individual's loyalty to his company in
terms of work and loyalty.
8. On time sign off and short
contracts
Ask
a merchant marine veteran, and he will tell you that the practice of timely sign-off
is a sign of a good company to work for. An employer who arouses the interest
of a seafarer, especially when it comes to his long-term visit at home,
certainly means a great work ethic. The subject of shorter contracts also falls
into the same area, since short contracts ward off negative thoughts on behalf
of the seafarer, such as: “Count days to travel home”, “when the ship will be
by the side”, etc. Timely cancellation is a concern of every seafarer. Like
other people, seafarers have made plans and made commitments to their loved
ones. Keeping the promises they kept is all a seafarer demands from shipping
companies and owners.
9. One Day Off
A luxury that does not belong to sailors is something that brings great joy and anticipation on a ship one day. A rare event on a plane, one day off gives most sailors a decent day away from work and responsibilities. Waking up late and sleeping in the lounge all day are small pleasures that happen from time to time and end up as a great freshness for the body and mind for the sailor.
10. Delicious Meal
We all read the quote “The path to the human heart is through the stomach.” Yeah, it must be on the boat. Everyone is so excited to see good food on the table. No sailor can be satisfied with a plate of smoke and food that has been prepared before/after his hour.
